The University of Suffolk (UOS) is entering the world of competitive video gaming with the announcement of its upcoming Esports undergraduate degree course, which will start in 2025.
This cutting-edge program, developed in collaboration with electronic sports, will cover various topics from game design to live streaming, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the industry. Professor Stuart Harmer, dean of the School of Technology, Business, and Arts at UOS, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating that it offers students “a much-needed pathway” into the rapidly expanding esports field.
With the surge in popularity of video-based competitions and the emergence of streaming platforms, the demand for skilled professionals in esports is on the rise. Recognizing this growth, UOS is committed to investing in a state-of-the-art esports lab equipped with high-spec gaming machines, where students can gain hands-on experience and participate in gaming events and tournaments.
“We are thrilled to announce our plans to create one of the first esports undergraduate courses in the East of England. It recognizes the tremendous growth and potential of the esports industry.
We have witnessed a significant growth in students studying esports at colleges and schools in the region and by providing this course we’re offering these students a much-needed pathway that allows them an important progression into Higher Education in this industry.” said Professor Harmer.
